When longtime friends Shan Parker and Jarod Wilson began experimenting with cutting wine bottles, it only made sense to fill them with soy wax for candles. They did, and through experimenting, discovered essential oils and created their own scents. On a whim, they accepted an offer from Shan’s neighbor to sell some of their first candles at her holiday craft market.
That night, it became immediately clear: their handcrafted products sparked interest for people who appreciate quality and relentless attention to detail. Later, a friend suggested that they try their hand at soap-making, and soon, Jarod and Shan perfected formulas for the candles, all-natural soap, and body products that are the Onyx Exchange today.
At the Onyx Exchange, we take pride in our products because we create them ourselves in our local workshop. Our growth has allowed us to expand our reach, as we now work with a company in Colorado to cut our bottles and integrate other fragrances into our products. We hear what people like about our creations at craft shows, retail shops that sell our products, and candle maker bars – and we develop new ideas based on that feedback. Our work has allowed us to craft high-quality, handmade goods, and it’s also made us more connected to our community in Indy and beyond.
We love knowing that at any point in the day, someone is lighting a candle we poured, taking a bottle of our lotion out of their bag, or lathering up with a bar of our soap. And we understand that you appreciate the value of using upcycled materials with a focus on natural ingredients, and being a part of the movement of small creative businesses. Forged in friendship, committed to quality, and sustained by community, we at the Onyx Exchange are glad to be part of your lives.
